Day 20 Lash Aftercare Checklist in Batumi

October 2, 2026 · 12 min

Day 20 is often the point when lash extensions start to look noticeably different: a few fans may be missing, natural lashes have grown out, and the shape may no longer feel as balanced as it did after your appointment. This is completely normal. Your natural lashes are always moving through their growth cycle, and Batumi’s humid air, sea swims, summer heat and travel plans can make a regular routine even more important.

I recommend using day 20 as a quick check-in rather than waiting until your extensions look very sparse. A good at-home routine cannot stop natural lash shedding, but it can help keep the remaining extensions clean, comfortable and ready for a safe fill. Here is the checklist I share with clients who live in Batumi, are visiting for a few weeks, or need their lashes to stay tidy between appointments.

Why day 20 matters for lash extensions

Most clients begin to notice gaps between day 14 and day 21. This does not automatically mean that the application was poor or that you did something wrong. Each extension is attached to one natural lash, and when that natural lash sheds, the extension sheds with it. Other lashes are still growing, so the remaining extensions sit at different stages of growth.

By day 20, I look for three things: normal shedding, grown-out extensions, and signs that the lash line needs a proper cleanse. It is also a useful time to decide whether you need a fill now or whether you can comfortably wait a few more days. If you are planning a beach day, a weekend trip, a wedding or photos in Batumi, do not leave this decision until the last minute.

Your day 20 lash checklist

Take two minutes in front of a mirror in good daylight. Do not pull at the extensions or inspect them with sharp tools.

  • Check symmetry: Are both eyes still similarly full, or is one side noticeably more sparse?
  • Look for grown-out lashes: Extensions that have moved away from the lash line as your natural lashes grow are normal and should be removed professionally at a fill.
  • Notice stickies: If two natural lashes feel connected or your lashes pinch when blinking, contact your lash artist. Do not separate them yourself.
  • Check cleanliness: Look for makeup residue, sunscreen, skin oil or fluffy build-up near the roots.
  • Assess the shape: A few gaps are expected, but a broken outer corner or uneven styling may mean it is time to book.
  • Think about your calendar: Swimming, sauna visits, travel and busy work weeks are all reasons to reserve your fill in advance.

If you are unsure what is normal, a clear photo taken from above and sent before booking can help me advise whether you need a standard fill, a longer appointment, or a new set.

Clean your extensions properly every day

At day 20, cleansing matters more than trying to make lashes look fuller with mascara. Oil, makeup, SPF and dust can collect around the lash line. In Batumi, this is especially common in warm weather, when humidity and sunscreen are part of daily life.

A simple evening cleansing routine

  1. Wash your hands first.
  2. Use an oil-free lash cleanser or a gentle foam cleanser suitable for eyelash extensions.
  3. Apply it with a soft cleansing brush or clean fingertips, focusing gently along the lash line and between the extensions.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Water itself is not the enemy of cured lash adhesive; leaving cleanser or makeup behind is the bigger problem.
  5. Pat the eye area dry with a lint-free towel or let it air-dry.
  6. When fully dry, brush through the extensions with a clean spoolie.

Avoid rubbing side to side. Instead, use soft downward and upward movements around the lashes. If you wear eye makeup often, cleanse more carefully rather than more aggressively. You can find my fuller lash extension aftercare guide for the everyday basics.

Batumi sea, pool and humidity rules

You do not need to avoid the Black Sea or a hotel pool for the entire life of your extensions. Once the initial curing period after an appointment has passed, you can swim. The key is to rinse and cleanse afterwards, especially if you have been in salt water, chlorinated water or heavy sunscreen.

Sea water can leave salt on the lashes, while pool water and sunscreen can create residue around the roots. After swimming, rinse your face with fresh water when possible. Later that evening, do your usual gentle lash cleanse and allow the lashes to dry before brushing them into place.

High humidity does not make extensions fall off by itself. However, humid summer days can mean more sweating, more face touching and more product around the eyes. Carrying a clean spoolie in a protective case is useful, but brushing is not a replacement for washing. Do not use a wet towel to rub your eyes after the beach.

What about sauna and steam?

Very hot steam can affect the curl and finish of extensions over time, particularly if you visit a sauna frequently or sit close to strong steam. I suggest keeping sauna sessions moderate, avoiding direct steam on the face, and gently drying your lashes afterward. If sauna is part of your weekly routine, choose a fill schedule that reflects your lifestyle rather than expecting the same wear as someone who never uses steam.

Products to use and products to skip

The safest product rule is simple: keep heavy oils and waterproof formulas away from the lash line. Not every oil-free product is automatically perfect, but oil-rich removers, cleansing balms and thick eye creams are more likely to leave residue around the extensions.

Do not try to fix gaps with strip lashes or cluster lashes. The glue can create build-up and make professional removal more difficult. If you want a different look at your next appointment, we can discuss whether a classic, 2D or fuller styling fits your natural lashes and routine. You can also explore lash extension styles and types before your fill.

Common day 20 mistakes I see

The most common mistake is waiting until only a small number of extensions remain. A fill is designed to refresh healthy remaining extensions and add new ones to suitable natural lashes. When too much time passes, there may be too little work left to refill efficiently, and you may need a new set instead.

Another mistake is picking at a loose extension. It can be tempting, especially when one lash twists or feels longer than the rest. Pulling can remove a natural lash before its natural shedding time. Brush it gently after cleansing; if it still feels uncomfortable, message your artist.

I also see clients avoiding washing because they are afraid of water. Clean extensions generally look softer, fluffier and more comfortable than extensions coated with oils and makeup. The goal is gentle, consistent cleaning - not avoiding the eye area completely.

When should you book a lash fill?

For many clients, 2–3 weeks is a practical fill window. Your personal timing depends on your natural lash cycle, home care, style, sleep habits, sport, swimming and how full you like your lashes to look. A light classic set may show gaps sooner than a textured volume set, while some clients simply prefer a fresh, tidy line every two weeks.

At day 20, book promptly if you have visible gaps, extensions that have grown out significantly, a special event coming up, or less than roughly half of your original set remaining. If you are a tourist in Batumi, send a message as soon as you know your dates. Same-day availability is not something I can promise during summer or holiday periods.

Conclusion

Day 20 is not a deadline or a sign of failure - it is a useful moment to clean, assess and plan. Keep your lash line clean, rinse after sea or pool time, avoid pulling, and book before your set becomes too sparse. Consistent aftercare makes your extensions easier to maintain and gives me a cleaner base for your next appointment.

FAQs

- Is it normal to lose lash extensions by day 20?

Yes. Extensions shed with your natural lashes, which continuously grow and shed. Some gaps by day 20 are normal, but a very sparse set may need a fill or a new set depending on how much remains.

- Can I swim in the Black Sea with lash extensions?

Yes, after the initial aftercare period following your appointment. Rinse your lashes with fresh water after swimming when possible, then cleanse them gently later to remove salt, sunscreen and other residue.

- Why do my lashes look less full on one eye?

Natural lash shedding is not always perfectly symmetrical. Sleep position, face touching, makeup habits and your individual growth cycle can also make one side look more sparse. Avoid picking and book a fill if the difference is noticeable.

- Can I use mascara on lash extensions at day 20?

I do not recommend waterproof mascara or applying mascara directly to extensions. It can create residue and make cleansing difficult. A timely fill is a cleaner option when you want fullness again.

- Can I remove a grown-out extension myself?

No. Pulling or using remover at home can damage natural lashes or irritate the eye area. Leave grown-out extensions for a trained lash artist to remove safely during your appointment.
