Lash Care in May in Batumi: Sea, Heat & Humidity

October 9, 2026 · 12 min

May is one of my favourite months in Batumi: the city becomes greener, beach walks return, terraces fill up, and many visitors arrive for a short holiday. It is also the month when lash extensions need a little more attention. Warm days, changing humidity, sea air, sunscreen and spontaneous swims can all affect how clean and fresh your lashes look between appointments.

The good news is that you do not need to avoid the beach or build your holiday around your lashes. I simply recommend a realistic routine. With gentle cleaning, sensible product choices and timely fills, you can enjoy May in Batumi while keeping your extensions comfortable and tidy.

Why May weather in Batumi can affect lash retention

Batumi sits on the Black Sea coast, so humidity is part of everyday life. In May, the weather can change quickly: a warm sunny afternoon may be followed by rain or a humid evening walk by the boulevard. Humidity itself does not instantly make extensions fall out, but it can influence the small habits that do.

For example, on warmer days we touch our faces more often, use more sunscreen, sweat around the eye area, or reach for richer creams. Sea mist, dust and makeup can collect along the lash line too. When this buildup is left for several days, lashes may look less fluffy, stick together, or feel uncomfortable.

Natural lashes also shed as part of their normal growth cycle. An extension is attached to one natural lash, so it sheds with that lash eventually. This is why no artist can honestly promise an exact number of weeks of perfect retention. Good aftercare helps you get the best possible wear from your set, but natural shedding, skin type, lifestyle and home routine all matter.

Your simple daily lash routine

I always prefer a routine that a client can actually keep, especially if she is travelling, working remotely, or rushing between the beach and dinner. Aim for two small habits: cleanse and brush.

Cleanse the lash line every day

Use a lash-extension-safe foam cleanser or another gentle, oil-free cleanser around the eyes. With clean fingertips or a soft lash brush, lightly work the cleanser through the lash line, rinse thoroughly with clean water, then pat the area dry. Do not rub with a towel.

Cleaning is not only for clients who wear makeup. Natural oils, skincare residue, pollen and city dust still collect at the roots. In Batumi’s humid weather, daily cleansing is especially useful after a long walk, outdoor workout, beach day or evening out.

Brush only when lashes are dry

After cleansing, let your lashes dry naturally or use a cool, gentle airflow from a distance. Then comb them from underneath with a clean spoolie. I recommend brushing once in the morning and once after washing your face if needed. Too much brushing or brushing wet lashes can pull and twist them unnecessarily.

  • Cleanse gently every evening.
  • Rinse away cleanser completely.
  • Pat dry rather than rubbing.
  • Brush dry lashes with a clean spoolie.
  • Keep your hands away from the lash line during the day.

Can you swim in the sea in May with lash extensions?

Yes, you can. A sea swim does not automatically ruin lash extensions. Once the adhesive has had the full initial setting period recommended after your appointment, normal contact with water is fine. The important part is what you do afterwards.

Salt water can leave a drying residue, and sunscreen or face oils may migrate into the lashes during a swim. After the sea, rinse your face and eye area with fresh water as soon as practical. Later, cleanse the lash line gently and let the extensions dry before brushing them into place.

If you are booking lashes right before your Batumi holiday, I suggest planning your appointment at least a day before your first swim. That gives you breathing room instead of worrying about water immediately after a fresh set. If you have a very packed itinerary, tell me when booking and I can help you choose a convenient appointment time.

Beach-day habits that protect your set

  • Choose sunglasses with enough space so they do not press against the lash tips.
  • Apply sunscreen carefully and avoid spreading creamy product directly into the lash line.
  • Do not wipe salt water from your eyes by rubbing them with a towel.
  • Rinse with fresh water after swimming.
  • Bring a clean spoolie in a small case for use only after lashes are dry.

Heat, sweat and sunscreen: what to watch for

May heat in Batumi is usually manageable, but sunny afternoons can still be warm. Sweat does not “melt” professional lash adhesive. The bigger issue is friction: wiping the eye area repeatedly, pressing a towel into the lashes, or using oily products to remove sunscreen at night.

Use a light sunscreen around the orbital bone and apply it with clean hands. Give it time to settle before makeup. Avoid coating your upper lid right at the roots of the extensions. If you use a rich eye cream, keep it below the lash line and use a very small amount. Oil-heavy balms and cleansing oils can leave residue that makes extensions look separated or less clean.

Waterproof mascara is another common summer mistake. It is difficult to remove without rubbing or oil-based removers, and volume or textured sets do not need it. If you want a more defined look for photos, ask me which lash style will suit your eye shape and plans. You can explore lash extension styles and types before your appointment.

Pool, sauna and hammam plans

Pool water, sauna visits and hammams are not forbidden forever, but they ask for more care than a regular shower. Chlorinated water and steam can leave residue, while heat and humidity make people more likely to touch or wipe their faces. If you swim regularly, make post-swim rinsing and cleansing part of your routine.

For sauna or hammam lovers, I recommend avoiding very long, intense heat sessions, particularly right after a new set or fill. Let the lashes cool and dry naturally afterwards; do not tug them into shape while they are damp. If your plans include several spa visits in one week, booking your lash fill after that schedule can be the easiest option.

There is no need to cancel a holiday activity because of lashes. Just be honest about your schedule when deciding when to book. A fresh fill immediately before several beach, pool and spa days may not be the most practical timing for every client.

Common May mistakes I see between fills

Small habits cause most avoidable issues. Here are the ones I see most often when clients return after a busy spring week in Batumi.

  1. Skipping cleansing because the lashes look clean. Residue starts at the roots, where it is not always obvious in the mirror.
  2. Using cotton pads around extensions. Fibres can catch on the lashes and encourage rubbing. Choose lint-free materials when possible.
  3. Picking at a loose extension. Pulling can remove the natural lash before it is ready to shed. Leave it alone and book a fill if needed.
  4. Trying to fix gaps with strip lashes. Removing strip lashes can pull on extensions. It is usually safer to schedule a small refresh.
  5. Waiting too long for a fill. When many extensions have shed, a fill may no longer be enough and a new set may be required.

Also, please do not trim your extensions at home. If the styling feels too long, uneven or uncomfortable, message me with a clear photo in natural light. I can advise you on the safest next step.

When should you book a lash fill in May?

Most clients feel ready for a fill around two to three weeks after their appointment, but this is a guideline, not a rule. Your natural lash cycle, set type, cleansing routine and holiday plans may shift the timing. If you are travelling out of Batumi, it is smart to schedule your fill before you leave rather than wait until the last minute.

For visitors staying only a few days, I usually suggest booking a fresh set or fill early in the trip, not on the final evening before a flight. That leaves time to settle into your plans and gives you a beautiful, low-maintenance look for photos, dinners and beach walks. You can check my current lash extension prices before choosing classic, 2D, 3D or a fuller effect.

Conclusion

May in Batumi is for enjoying the sea, sunshine and relaxed plans - not worrying about every drop of water near your lashes. Clean your lash line daily, rinse after swimming, avoid rubbing, and do not wait until your set is almost gone to think about a fill. Those simple steps make the biggest difference.

FAQs

- Can I go to the beach with fresh lash extensions?

Yes, but give your new set the recommended initial setting time before swimming or exposing it to heavy steam. After the beach, rinse away salt water and cleanse your lash line later that day.

- Does Batumi humidity make lash extensions fall out faster?

Humidity alone is not the main reason for shedding. Natural lash growth, product residue, rubbing and missed cleansing are more common factors. A consistent care routine is the best support for retention.

- Should I wash lash extensions every day in summer?

Yes. Daily gentle cleansing is a good habit, especially after sunscreen, sweat, sea air, makeup or a beach day. Use an extension-safe cleanser and avoid rubbing.

- Can I use waterproof mascara with lash extensions?

I do not recommend it. Waterproof mascara is hard to remove and often leads to rubbing or oily removers. Choose a lash style with the definition you want instead.

- How do I know whether I need a fill or a new set?

If you still have a good amount of clean, well-attached extensions, a fill may be suitable. If most extensions have shed or grown out, a new set may be needed. Send me a photo on WhatsApp and I can guide you.
