Rain and Lash Extensions in Batumi: Dos and Don’ts

October 16, 2026 · 12 min

Rainy weather in Batumi can arrive suddenly: one minute you are walking along the boulevard, and the next you are looking for cover near Europe Square. If you wear lash extensions, you may wonder whether rain will ruin them. The reassuring answer is: normal rain is not a disaster for properly cured lash extensions. Still, wet weather, high humidity, steam, rubbing your eyes and using the wrong products can make your lashes look less neat or affect retention over time.

I work with many clients who live in Batumi all year, as well as tourists, expats and digital nomads staying near the sea. Our humid Black Sea climate means that a simple, consistent care routine matters more than trying to avoid every drop of rain. Here is how I recommend caring for your lash extensions when Batumi is wet, windy or extra humid.

Can rain damage lash extensions?

Once the adhesive has fully cured, light rain itself should not instantly make your extensions fall out. Lash adhesive is designed to tolerate normal daily contact with water after the initial aftercare period. The bigger issue is what often happens around rain: clients rub wet eyes, press lashes with a towel, sit in a very hot shower to warm up, or leave makeup and city dust around the lash line.

Fresh extensions need special care. During the first 24 hours after an appointment, I recommend avoiding direct water, heavy steam, sauna sessions and intense workouts where possible. Follow the specific guidance I give you at your appointment, because adhesive systems and your natural lashes can differ. After that initial period, clean water is part of normal lash hygiene.

Batumi humidity can also influence the application environment, which is why I monitor conditions in my workspace and adjust my process carefully. At home, however, you do not need to fear humid air. Your job is simply to keep the lash line clean and avoid mechanical damage.

What to do if you get caught in Batumi rain

A sudden rain shower does not require an emergency lash routine. Stay calm and avoid touching your eyes while you are outside. When you get indoors, use these simple steps:

  1. Let excess water drip away naturally for a moment.
  2. Gently pat the skin around your eyes with a clean, soft towel. Do not press the towel into the extensions.
  3. When your lashes are no longer dripping, brush them softly with a clean spoolie.
  4. If rainwater, sunscreen, makeup or dust has collected near the lash line, cleanse your lashes when you are home.
  5. Check for lashes that have turned or crossed, then brush only lightly to separate them.

Do not use a hairdryer directly on your eyes. Strong hot air can be uncomfortable and may blow extensions into an untidy direction. If you need to dry your lashes faster before leaving for dinner, use a cool setting from a distance, or simply give them a little time to air dry.

Rainy-day mistakes I see most often

Rubbing wet eyes

This is the most common mistake. Wet skin can make you want to wipe your eyes, especially if wind has pushed rain toward your face on the Batumi promenade. Rubbing bends extensions, places tension on natural lashes and can loosen shed lashes before they are ready to release naturally. Pat around the eye area instead.

Using a towel like a face scrub

Rough towels are not lash-friendly. Even if you are in a hurry after the beach, gym or a rainy walk, avoid dragging fabric from the forehead down across your eyes. Use a soft towel around the face and leave the extensions alone.

Skipping cleansing because lashes got wet

Rainwater is not a replacement for cleansing. In fact, if you have worn SPF, foundation, concealer or eyeliner, you still need to remove buildup from the lash line. Clean extensions are usually easier to brush, look fluffier and are more comfortable between fills. My detailed lash extension aftercare guide explains the daily routine in more detail.

Using oily waterproof makeup remover

Rainy weather often means waterproof mascara, long-wear eyeliner or heavier makeup. With extensions, mascara is usually unnecessary, and waterproof formulas can be difficult to remove without rubbing. Oil-based removers can also leave residue around the lash line. Choose an oil-free cleanser suitable for lash extensions and use gentle, controlled movements.

A simple wet-weather lash routine

Your routine does not need to be complicated. The best results come from small habits repeated every day, not from occasional rescue treatments.

MomentWhat I recommend
MorningBrush dry lashes gently from underneath and check that no extensions are crossed.
After rain or humidityPat the surrounding skin dry, let lashes air dry, then brush lightly.
EveningCleanse the lash line with an oil-free lash-safe cleanser, rinse carefully and dry gently.
Before sleepAvoid sleeping face-down when possible and keep your pillowcase clean.

If your lashes look closed or clumped after getting wet, do not pull them apart with your fingers. Let them dry first, then use a clean spoolie. If one fan has twisted, leave it alone rather than trying to reposition it. Trying to fix an extension yourself can pull on your natural lash.

Humidity, sea air and lash retention in Batumi

Batumi is beautiful because the sea is close, but the local climate can feel damp for much of the year. Humidity alone does not mean your lash extensions will fail. Retention is personal and depends on your natural lash cycle, skincare, sleep habits, cleansing routine, hormonal changes and how carefully you handle your lashes.

Sea air can leave a light salty feeling on the skin, especially after walking near the beach on a windy day. If you have been swimming, sweating or spending hours outside, cleanse your lashes later that day. You do not need to be afraid of living normally; you simply need to remove salt, sunscreen and makeup residue without rubbing.

For beach days, bring sunglasses, avoid applying thick sunscreen directly into the lash line and rinse your face after swimming. Sunglasses also help protect your eyes from wind, bright sun and the habit of squinting. If you are visiting Batumi for a short holiday, consider booking your fill before your busiest beach or spa days rather than immediately after them.

Rain, pools, saunas and hot showers are not the same

It is useful to separate these situations. A quick walk through rain is usually gentler than a long sauna session. Pools can expose lashes to chlorine, while sea water leaves salt residue. Hot showers and saunas add heat and steam, and steam may affect how neat extensions look if you make it a daily habit.

  • Rain: usually fine after the initial curing period; dry gently and brush when dry.
  • Sea or pool: rinse and cleanse afterward, especially after sunscreen and swimming.
  • Sauna or steam room: avoid during the initial aftercare period; afterward, keep visits moderate and cleanse later.
  • Hot shower: do not direct very hot water and steam at your face for a long time.

I never advise clients to stop enjoying Batumi, its hotels, pools or Black Sea weekends. The realistic goal is to care for your set before and after those activities. If you know you regularly swim, work out or use a sauna, tell me before your appointment so I can recommend a suitable style and fill schedule.

When should you book a fill?

Rain does not automatically mean you need an urgent fill. Natural lashes shed every day, and extensions shed with the natural lashes they are attached to. Most clients benefit from a fill approximately every two to three weeks, but the right timing depends on how much natural regrowth you have and how your set looks.

Book sooner if you have a noticeable gap, many grown-out extensions, or lashes that no longer feel balanced. Do not wait until only a few extensions remain, because that may require more time and can be treated as a new set rather than a regular fill. For visitors with a limited Batumi schedule, I recommend messaging early through my Batumi lash booking page so we can find a convenient time.

If you are unsure whether you need a fill or removal, send a clear photo in daylight before booking. I can give practical guidance, although the final assessment is always best in person.

Choose a style that fits your lifestyle

If you walk outdoors often, travel with only a small makeup bag or prefer an easy morning routine, choose a style that still looks elegant when it is freshly washed and unstyled. A classic or soft 2D set can be a beautiful low-maintenance option, while fuller volume styles can create a more noticeable makeup effect. The best choice is not about what is “better”; it is about your natural lashes, eye shape and how much fullness you enjoy.

You can explore the differences between lash extension styles and volumes before your next appointment. During a consultation, I will always consider your natural lashes and your routine, including beach days, workouts, travel plans and rainy commutes.

Conclusion

Batumi rain does not have to interrupt your lash routine. Once your extensions have passed their initial curing period, treat rain as normal life: do not rub, do not scrub with a towel, cleanse away residue and brush gently once dry. Consistent care matters far more than trying to keep your lashes completely dry forever.

FAQs

- Can I walk in the rain after a lash extension appointment?

During the first 24 hours, avoid direct water and heavy moisture around the eye area. After that initial period, a normal rainy walk is usually fine. Use an umbrella if practical, and avoid rubbing your eyes if they get wet.

- Do lash extensions fall out faster in humid Batumi weather?

Humidity by itself does not automatically cause poor retention. Natural lash shedding, skincare products, cleansing habits, rubbing and sleep position can all play a role. A regular fill schedule and gentle daily care are more important.

- Should I wash my lash extensions after rain?

If you only had a few drops of clean rain on your lashes, you do not need to wash them immediately. If you wore sunscreen or makeup, walked through dusty streets, swam or feel residue around the lash line, cleanse them as part of your evening routine.

- Can I use waterproof mascara on extensions in rainy weather?

I do not recommend it. Waterproof mascara can be difficult to remove and may lead to rubbing or product buildup. Extensions already create definition, so it is usually better to skip mascara and use a lash-safe makeup routine.
