FAQ & Myths Debunked

Weekly lash fills: myth or must? Batumi lash artist

September 10, 2026 · 12 min

Clients ask me this all the time: “If I want perfect lashes, should I book weekly fills?” I’m Olga, an independent lash artist in Batumi with 7+ years behind the lamp (Lash Pro certificate, Sochi 2018). Here’s my honest take, shaped by hundreds of sets and our very specific Batumi climate by the Black Sea.

Myth: Weekly fills are fine (or even better)

Short answer: for most people, weekly fills are unnecessary and can even work against healthy, long-term wear. The sweet spot for refills is usually every 2–3 weeks. Your natural lashes complete a growth cycle in about 6–8 weeks, and you naturally shed 2–5 lashes per eye per day. That means after two weeks, you’ll have a reasonable amount of outgrown extensions to replace, but not so many that we’re basically starting over.

Weekly fills make sense only in a few scenarios (I’ll list them below). If your everyday life in Batumi involves sea swims, sweat, and sunscreen, good aftercare plus a 2–3 week schedule still keeps you fresh without overloading your natural lashes or your budget.

What actually counts as a “fill”

A true fill isn’t just sticking more extensions on top. In my chair, a fill includes: a lash bath, removing grown-out or twisted extensions, replacing what’s shed, rebalancing the design, and checking attachment direction and weight. If you arrive with less than about 40–50% of extensions left, it’s no longer a fill - it’s close to a new set in time and effort.

When weekly fills can make sense

  • You’re on a short visit to Batumi and want top-up freshness for photos or an event-heavy week.
  • You wear very dense volume/mega volume and like an always-full look (just know we’ll remove outgrown fans every time, not stack).
  • Your skin is very oily or you train daily with lots of sweat and steam exposure; retention may dip slightly.
  • You had a new set right before a big occasion and want a light check-in at day 7–10 to fine-tune symmetry or replace early sheds.

In these cases, think of weekly visits as mini-maintenance - not a long-term rule. After your busy period, slide back to a 2–3 week rhythm.

When weekly fills can backfire

  • Adhesive build-up: If a tech “stacks” new extensions onto outgrown ones, the line gets stiff and heavy. I carefully remove outgrown pieces at every fill to protect natural lashes.
  • Increased sensitivity risk: More frequent exposure to adhesive fumes can irritate sensitive clients. Spacing appointments helps.
  • Over-manipulation: Constant taping, isolation, and removal on a weekly basis isn’t ideal if it’s not truly needed.
  • Costs more without real benefit: If your retention is solid, you’re paying for marginal gains.

Batumi reality: humidity, heat, sea, and why your routine matters

Batumi’s humidity can swing high, especially in summer. High humidity speeds up how fast lash adhesive sets. In the studio, I adjust glue choice and application speed to match the day’s conditions. Outside the studio, here’s what helps your retention:

  • Rinse after the sea: Salt can crystallize on lashes. After swimming, rinse with fresh water, pat dry, and brush with a clean spoolie.
  • Mind the sauna and steam rooms: Heat and steam can soften bonds. If you love a spa, go the day before a fill, not right after.
  • Be kind with sunscreen: Keep creamy, oily sunscreens away from the lash line. Use a stick or mineral formula and press it on carefully.
  • Clean lashes properly: Oil-free cleansing at the roots keeps follicles happy and extensions attached. Here’s my full lash aftercare guide.

With solid aftercare, most of my Batumi clients do perfectly well on a 2–3 week schedule, even with regular beach time.

How I plan fills for tourists and short stays

Many women come to Batumi for 1–3 weeks, or they’re on a visa run or a workation. If your goal is to look great the entire trip, here’s a simple plan:

  • Trip up to 10 days: Book a fresh set on day 1–2. If you have heavy sea/sauna plans or an event mid-trip, we can do a light mini-fill around day 7–9.
  • Trip 2–3 weeks: Set on arrival, one standard fill at the 14–17 day mark. That’s it.
  • Your home appointment is right after the trip: Skip the last-week fill here and book your home fill for the week you return.

Rapid-fire myths I hear every week

“Extensions hurt.”

No. Application should be relaxing. If you’ve felt stinging, it’s usually from fumes or tape placement, not the extensions themselves. Tell me immediately; I’ll adjust pads and airflow.

“Extensions damage natural lashes.”

Incorrect when applied and maintained correctly. Damage happens with poor isolation, wrong weights, or infills that ignore outgrowth. I match lengths and diameters to your natural lashes, and I remove outgrown pieces at every fill. Result: your natural lashes can grow and shed normally underneath.

“You can’t swim in the Black Sea with extensions.”

You can. After the first few hours, water is fine. Salt and rubbing are the real enemies. Rinse with fresh water after dips, pat dry, then brush. If you plan to dive a lot, snug goggles are your friend.

“Sauna will destroy them instantly.”

High heat and steam can weaken bonds more quickly, but not in one dramatic moment. If you’re a sauna lover, just expect slightly shorter retention and plan fills accordingly (or go sauna right before a fill).

“MRI is unsafe with lash extensions.”

False. Lash adhesive isn’t metallic. Most clients pass MRI without issues. Remove eye makeup and tell the technician you have extensions. If your scan involves equipment pressing around the eye area, let your tech know in advance.

“Pregnancy and extensions don’t mix.”

Many pregnant clients wear extensions comfortably. Hormones can affect oiliness and shedding, and some women become more scent-sensitive. I recommend a patch test if you’re new to extensions and extra breaks during the appointment so you can change position. Always consult your doctor if you have specific medical concerns.

“I can use mascara like normal.”

Best to avoid. Waterproof mascara and oil-based removers break down adhesive. If you must, use a water-based mascara only on classic sets and only on the tips - never with volume fans. Clean gently that night.

“Allergies are guaranteed.”

No. Most clients have zero reactions. A true allergy to cyanoacrylate is rare but possible. If you’ve had redness, itching, or swelling before, we can patch test or discuss alternatives. If a reaction occurs, do not self-remove - come in for a safe professional removal.

A practical refill roadmap (Batumi edition)

  • Day 0: New set. Avoid sauna/steam for the first 24 hours; normal face washing is OK. Sleep on your back or side, not face-down.
  • Days 1–7: Beach? Rinse after the sea, brush daily. Avoid oily creams on the lash line.
  • Days 8–10: Looking fresh for a photoshoot or wedding? Optional mini-fill.
  • Days 14–21: Standard fill for most clients. If you’ve had heavy sea/sauna days, book the earlier side of this window.

If you ever feel unsure, send me a close-up photo in natural light. I’ll advise whether you’re better off waiting another week or coming in sooner. You can also reach me through the contact form.

Conclusion

Weekly fills aren’t “bad,” but they’re rarely needed. In Batumi’s humidity and beach lifestyle, the winning combo is a correct set, thoughtful aftercare, and a realistic 2–3 week refill plan - plus a strategic mini-fill only when your schedule demands it. If you want help choosing the right look - classic 1:1 from 70 GEL, 2D from 95 GEL, or fluffier volume options - book a chat and I’ll guide you based on your natural lashes and plans.

FAQs

- How often should I book fills in Batumi?

Most clients are perfect at every 2–3 weeks. Heavy beach/sauna weeks or very oily skin may push you closer to 2 weeks. If you’re a tourist here for only 10–14 days, consider a mini-fill mid-trip if you want flawless photos.

- Is a weekly mini-fill bad for my natural lashes?

Not if it’s done properly with removal of outgrown pieces and correct weights. It’s simply unnecessary for most people. Use weekly mini-fills strategically - for events or short stays - then return to a 2–3 week rhythm.

- What percentage of lashes should remain for a fill?

Ideally at least 40–50% of your extensions. If you’re below that, we’ll likely need extended time, closer to a new set.

- Can I get my lashes wet right away in Batumi humidity?

Modern adhesives set quickly, but I still recommend avoiding heavy steam/sauna for the first 24 hours. Gentle face washing is fine after a few hours. After swimming in the sea, rinse with fresh water and brush.

- I had irritation before - can I try again?

Possibly. We can patch test first and adjust products and airflow. If you experienced true allergic swelling, we’ll discuss risks and alternatives. Never self-remove if irritation appears; come in for a safe removal.
