Choosing between classic and volume lashes is easier when you stop thinking about “the best” option and start thinking about the best option for your own natural lashes, eye shape, routine and desired finish. In my Batumi studio, I see clients who want an understated everyday look, tourists who want polished lashes for beach photos, and long-term residents who need a practical refill routine. Classic, 2D, 3D, mega volume, hybrid extensions and an LED lash lift can all look beautiful - but they create very different results.
I have worked with lash extensions for more than seven years, and my rule is simple: a set should feel comfortable, suit your features and be realistic to maintain. Let’s compare the options clearly, including what usually works well in Batumi’s humid Black Sea climate.
Classic lashes: the most natural extension look
Classic extensions use a 1:1 technique: one individual extension is attached to one healthy natural lash. This creates definition, a mascara-like effect and a clean lash line without obvious volume.
I usually recommend classics if you have a good amount of natural lashes and want people to notice that your eyes look brighter - not necessarily that you are wearing extensions. They are also a lovely first appointment for someone who feels nervous about a dramatic result.
Who classic lashes suit best
- You prefer a natural, elegant result for work, university or daily life.
- Your natural lashes are fairly even and you want more length or curl.
- You wear little makeup and do not want a dense lash line.
- You are booking extensions for the first time.
A classic set cannot create fullness where there are large gaps in the natural lash line. In that situation, a light volume technique may look more balanced. My classic lash extension service starts from 70 GEL, with the final design based on your natural lashes and the effect you want.
What 2D and 3D volume lashes change
Volume lashes use very light handmade fans. “2D” means two fine extensions are placed on one natural lash; “3D” means three. Because the fibers are lighter than a single thick classic extension, a properly made fan can add softness and density without overloading the natural lash.
For many clients, 2D is the sweet spot. It is more noticeable than classics but still soft enough for everyday wear. It works especially well when natural lashes are sparse, uneven or naturally point downward. My 2D lash extensions start from 95 GEL.
3D gives a fuller, fluffier line and photographs beautifully without needing heavy eyeliner. It can be a good choice for events, holidays, weddings or anyone who likes a visible but refined makeup effect. You can see the available options through my 3D lash extension service.
Classic, 2D and 3D at a glance
| Type | Effect | Best for | Typical starting price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic 1:1 | Defined, mascara-like | Natural everyday enhancement | 70 GEL |
| 2D volume | Soft, fuller, airy | Light gaps or a more polished look | 95 GEL |
| 3D volume | Fluffy, noticeable volume | Photos, events or fuller daily style | 110 GEL |
| Mega volume | Dense, glamorous lash line | Clients who love a bold finish | Up to 130 GEL |
Prices can vary with the existing work that needs removal, the desired styling and the amount of natural lashes. Before booking, check my current lash extension prices and message me with a clear photo if you are unsure.
Mega volume and hybrid lashes: when more texture is the goal
Mega volume uses larger fans made from ultra-fine fibers. The finished effect can range from dark and velvety to very fluffy, depending on the mapping and fan size. It is not simply “more lashes” or “heavier lashes.” Safe work depends on choosing a fan weight that is appropriate for each natural lash.
Mega volume is for clients who genuinely enjoy a statement look. It can be striking for celebrations, evening makeup and holiday content, but it is not necessary to make your eyes look open or attractive. A good lash set should match your personal style rather than follow a trend.
Hybrid lashes mix classic extensions and volume fans. They have more texture than an all-volume set and can look slightly wispy or “spiky.” I often suggest a hybrid style for clients who like a lived-in, textured effect, especially if their natural lashes are uneven. The exact result depends on the map: a soft hybrid and a dramatic hybrid are very different looks.
LED lash lift versus lash extensions
An LED lash lift is not an extension service. It works with your own lashes, lifting and curling them for a more open-eye appearance. It is a great alternative if you want low-maintenance enhancement, dislike the feeling of extensions or are only in Batumi for a short visit.
A lift will not add density where you have sparse natural lashes, and it will not create the same eyeliner-like lash line as 2D or 3D volume. On naturally long lashes, however, it can look beautifully fresh and effortless. My LED lash lift starts from 80 GEL.
Choose extensions when you want added length, fullness or a particular shape. Choose a lift when you want to enhance what you already have with less daily styling. If you swim often, spend long days at the beach or prefer no refill appointments, a lift may fit your plans better.
Curl, length and mapping matter more than a trend
The type of lashes is only one part of the design. I also choose curl, length, thickness and mapping. The same 2D set can look natural on one client and glamorous on another depending on these details.
How I approach eye shape
- Almond eyes: usually suit many maps. A gentle cat-eye or squirrel effect can look especially balanced.
- Round eyes: often look beautiful with more length toward the outer third, while avoiding an overly round “doll” map.
- Hooded eyes: may benefit from a curl and placement that keep the lashes visible when the eyes are open.
- Downturned outer corners: often need careful mapping. Too much length at the very edge can visually pull the eye down.
- Close-set eyes: can look more open with a design that avoids making the inner corners too heavy.
Longer is not always better. Very long extensions can hide the eye shape, feel impractical and create an unbalanced result. I prefer to build a design around your natural lash strength and facial proportions. Bring one or two reference photos, but be open to adapting them - your eye shape and natural lashes may need a different version of the same idea.
Batumi humidity, sea air and lash retention
Batumi’s humidity, summer heat and time around the Black Sea are part of real life here. They do not mean you cannot wear extensions, but your routine matters. Humidity, sunscreen, salt water, steam and frequent swimming can make lashes feel less neat if aftercare is ignored.
I advise clients to avoid getting new lashes unnecessarily wet during the initial setting period I explain after the appointment, then cleanse them regularly with a suitable lash cleanser. After beach time or swimming, rinse away salt and chlorine gently, cleanse when needed and brush only when lashes are dry. Avoid oily products directly at the lash line and do not rub your eyes with a towel.
For a more detailed routine, read my lash extension aftercare guide. I never promise an exact retention period because each client’s natural lash cycle, skin type, home care and holiday schedule are different.
How to choose if you are visiting Batumi
If you are a tourist or digital nomad, tell me your dates before booking. For a short stay, consider whether you want the ongoing maintenance of extensions after you leave Batumi. A lash lift may be the simpler option if you cannot plan a refill later.
If you are staying longer, I recommend booking before a major event rather than at the last possible minute. Give yourself time to get used to the look and to ask questions. If you already have extensions from another artist, send a photo on WhatsApp before the appointment. I can tell you whether a refill may be possible or whether removal and a fresh set would be more appropriate.
Conclusion
Classic lashes are ideal for clean, natural definition. Choose 2D when you want a soft fuller look, 3D for more visible fluffiness, mega volume for a bold finish, and hybrid for texture. An LED lash lift is the practical choice when you want to enhance your own lashes without extensions. The best result is not the fullest set - it is the one that fits your features, lifestyle and natural lashes.

FAQs
- Are classic lashes better than volume lashes for beginners?
Not always, but classics are often an easy first choice when you want a subtle result. If your natural lashes have visible gaps or you want a fuller line, a light 2D set may actually look more balanced.
- Will volume lashes damage my natural lashes?
Volume lashes should be selected according to the strength of your natural lashes. I use lightweight fans and avoid attaching an unsuitable amount of weight. Correct application and not pulling or picking the extensions are important.
- Can I swim in the sea with lash extensions in Batumi?
Yes, after the initial aftercare period discussed at your appointment. Salt water, sunscreen and towel rubbing can affect how tidy lashes look, so rinse gently after swimming, cleanse as needed and avoid rubbing.
- How often do I need a lash refill?
Most extension clients plan refills regularly as natural lashes shed and grow, but the exact timing depends on your lash cycle, desired fullness and aftercare. I can recommend a realistic schedule after seeing your lashes.
- Is a lash lift more natural than extensions?
Yes. A lash lift works only with your own lashes, so it gives a naturally lifted and curled result. Extensions are better when you want extra length, density or a specific lash-line shape.
